OneDrive for iPad Basics

This service is for faculty, staff, and students.

OneDrive for iPad lets you view and upload files to your St. Thomas OneDrive account. The steps below will guide you through the setup process and provide a general overview of using the OneDrive app for iPad.

Note: The info and instructions below also apply to Microsoft OneDrive for iPhone.

How to Download OneDrive for iPad

For St. Thomas-managed iPads, OneDrive is available in the pre-installed Self Service app.

  1. On your iPad's Home Screen or App Library, tap the Self Service app icon.

  2. Scroll or use the Search feature in Self Service to find the Microsoft OneDrive app.

  3. Tap the Install or Reinstall button on the app.

For all other iPads, OneDrive is available in Apple's App Store.

  1. Tap the App Store app icon on your iPad's Home Screen or App Library.

  2. Within the App Store, tap the Seach button and enter OneDrive in the search field.

  3. Tap the Get button to install the app.
Note: An Apple ID is required to install apps from the App Store.

How to Setup OneDrive for iPad

  1. On your iPad's Home Screen or App Library, tap the OneDrive app icon.

  2. Enter your non-vanity St. Thomas email address on the Microsoft Sign In screen; tap the blue arrow button.

  3. Enter your St. Thomas account password; tap the Sign In button.

OneDrive for iPad Overview

Home

When launching the OneDrive app, the default view is the OneDrive Home screen.

The OneDrive Home screen presents a general overview of the content currently stored in your St. Thomas OneDrive account, including:

  • Recent Files: The files most recently viewed, edited, or uploaded.
  • Shared Libraries: Quick access to files in your St. Thomas SharePoint and Teams sites.
  • Offline Files: Access to the files saved locally in the OneDrive app on your iPad without the need for an internet connection to view or edit the file.

Files

The Files view lists all folders and files currently stored in your St. Thomas OneDrive account.

Within the Files view, you can tap the + button in the top right corner of your screen to complete the following actions:

  1. Scan: Instantly scan a Document, Whiteboard, Business Card, and Pictures with your iPad's camera, add optional annotations or additional text, and upload it to your OneDrive account.
  2. Upload: Add content stored in your iPad's Photos & Files app to your OneDrive account.
  3. Take a Photo or Video: Use your iPad's camera to take photos and videos and upload them directly to your OneDrive account.
  4. Create a Folder: Add a new folder to your OneDrive account. When creating your folder, you can use the Share this folder option to allow view-only or editing to your folder.

Camera

Tapping the Camera button will allow you to scan a Document, Whiteboard, Business Card, and Pictures with your iPad's camera, add optional annotations or additional text, and upload it to your OneDrive account.

Shared

The Shared view lists all folders and files recently shared with you by other people.

You can see who shared the file or folder by looking at the Shared by column within the Shared view.


Libraries

The Libraries view lists your Frequent and Following St. Thomas SharePoint & Teams sites.

Tapping a SharePoint or Teams site will show the files and folders currently stored on the site.
