Standard Classroom Audiovisual System Instructions

The University of St. Thomas is currently in the middle of a multi-year classroom standardization project. As such we currently have three different types of AV systems in our standard classrooms. All classroom AV systems support projected video and amplified audio from either a designated instructor PC or a laptop and include a PTZ camera and boundary microphone for videoconferencing or lecture capture.  What differs is how you interact with these systems.

Hybrid Peripherals

The PTZ camera, boundary microphone and HoverCam work identically in all types of rooms. Please note that these can only be used with the room PC.

Using the PTZ camera and boundary microphone

  • Position the panel microphone. It picks up audio best in front and to the sides of it, but directly behind the microphone pickup is weak.
  • Start a Zoom call and ensure that within Zoom the correct microphone, speaker and camera are selected.
    • Microphone = Microphone (USB Audio Codec)
    • Speaker = ExtronScalerD (AMD High Definition Audio Device)
    • Camera = PTZ Pro 2
  • Use the Logitech remote control to adjust the PTZ camera.

Using the HoverCam as a Document Camera

  • On the PC desktop, open the Flex 11 software.
  • Once open, physically adjust the HoverCam over the paper document you wish to project on the AV system.  Tip: Press the AF-L button on the base to lock the focus. Otherwise, focus tends to wander.

The HoverCam can also be used as a second camera in Zoom/Panopto and has a microphone.
