Overview

To address changes in Zoom’s licensing terms, student Zoom accounts will be changed from Zoom Pro to Zoom Education Standard Student licenses.

Students will continue to have access to Zoom for classes, meetings, advising sessions, and other university-related activities.

What Is Changing?

Student Zoom account license will be changed from Pro to Education Standard Student.

What Will Be Different

  • Zoom meetings hosted by students will be limited to 40 minutes.
  • Zoom meetings hosted by students will not be able to record to the cloud.

What You Can Still Do

  • Join Zoom meetings hosted by others.
  • Attend online classes and university events.
  • Schedule and host meetings.
  • Use screen sharing.
  • Use meeting chat.
  • Create and manage Zoom meetings.
  • Access Zoom using your university Single Sign-On (SSO) account.
  • Record meetings locally to your device.

When Will This Change Occur?

This change will take place on July 27th, 2026.

No action is required. Your account will automatically transition to the Education Standard Student license.

Impact on Classes

This change should not affect your ability to participate in classes, academic meetings, advising appointments, or university-sponsored events conducted through Zoom.

Students can continue joining scheduled class sessions and collaborating with instructors and classmates as they do today.

What Do I Need to Do?

Nothing. Your Zoom account will be updated automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I still be able to join my classes?

Yes. You can continue joining Zoom meetings and classes as usual.

Will I still be able to host meetings?

Yes. Students will continue to be able to schedule and host Zoom meetings using their Education Standard Student account.

Do I need to create a new Zoom account?

No. Continue using your existing university Zoom account.

Will my Zoom profile, meeting history, or settings be deleted?

No. Your Zoom account information, profile, and settings will remain available.

Can I still access my existing cloud recordings?

Yes, any existing cloud recordings you have made under your student account will remain accessible.

What if I want to share my Zoom recording with others?

Students will still be able to make local computer recordings through Zoom.  These recordings can then be uploaded to Panopto and shared with a link.  See the linked Panopto KB for more information.
