Changing Paper Tray Settings

Issue or Question

How do I change the paper type on the printer / copier?

You may need to change the paper type on a printer / copier in order to print different materials, such as name tags, letterhead, or greeting cards so that images and messages print fully and clearly. 

Environment

This information applies to: University of St. Thomas printers and copiers.

Before You Begin

Important: You will need access to the printer / copier you wish to use.

  1. Log on to the printer / copier.  On the main page, look to the lower right corner and select Tray Settings.Image of copier main screen with Paper Tray Settings circled in red.
  2. You’ll now see the Tray Settings page.  Here you can select any tray and modify the paper type in the tray.  For this example we’ll use the Bypass Tray.Image of paper tray settings with the by-pass tray circled in red.
  3. Now you’ll have the ability to select the paper type for the tray in the example, we’ll select Labels.  After selecting Labels, click OK.

  4. The copier is now set to paper type Labels for the Bypass Tray.  The copier will now apply the correct amount of toner and heat for the paper type when you print your labels.
  5. Remember to change the tray back to Plain 1 when you are done with your special paper.  Forgetting to make the change will result in the copier not pulling paper from this tray if the paper type does not match the setting on your computer.
