Do you or your students need to write or create mathematical equations in Canvas? Visit the resources below to learn more about the options provided by the tool EquatIO.
With EquatIO, you can insert a mathematical equation in your Canvas course anywhere you use the rich content editor.
How you access the tool depends on whether or not you're using the new rich content editor.
Access from original text editor
If you haven't manually made the switch to the new rich-content editor, then follow these instructions to use EquatIO:
- When you are editing a page, discussion, or assignment, click the blue V icon to find More External Tools.

- Then, select "Insert EquatIO Equation" from the list.

Access from new rich-content editor
If you have manually made the switch to the new rich-content editor, follow these instructions to use EquatIO:
- When you are editing a page, discussion, or assignment, click the plug icon.

- Then, select "Insert EquatIO Equation" from the list.

- Start with the Equation Editor video (12:36). It gives a basic overview of the tool and shows how to work with the most commonly used features.
- Please note that the formulas mentioned at the end of this video are not supported in our instance of EquatIO. However, all other basic functionality will function as shown in the video.
