Windows: Check for app updates in Software Center

This service is for faculty, staff, and students.

All St. Thomas Windows devices are set to automatically check for new apps and updates in Software Center on a regular basis. Still, you may occasionally need to force your device to check in to see an update. The steps below will show you how to force your Windows device to check for updates in Software Center.

Check for updates from Configuration Manager

  1. In the Search box in your Windows task bar, search for "Control Panel."

  2. Click "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel.

  3. In the window that appears, use the search box in the top-right area of the window to search for "Configuration Manager."

  4. Click "Configuration Manager" to open the Configuration Manager window.

  5. Click the "Actions" tab to view available actions.

  6. Highlight "Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle" and click "Run Now"

  7. You will be prompted that the cycle will run and may take several minutes to complete. Click OK.
     
  8. Highlight "Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle" and click "Run Now"

  9. You will be prompted that the cycle will run and may take several minutes to complete. Click OK.
     
  10. Open the Software Center by searching for "Software Center" in the Windows task bar and clicking "Software Center" in the search results.
     
  11. Look for the app you wish to install. You may need to press the F5 key a few times to have Software Center refresh before you see any new apps. Newer apps will appear with a "new" label over their icon.
