Accessing Badge Data in Canvas and Parchment Badges (formerly Canvas Credentials/Badgr)

Summary

Information and instructions for accessing badge data in Canvas.

Body

This article helps St. Thomas employees who manage a Digital Badge/Micro-credential course (referred to as "Badge Managers") know how to find data about who is earning badges and how they are sharing their badges.

Badge Managers can find badge data in two locations (explained in this article):

  1. Inside your Canvas course site.
  2. Within our badging platform, Parchment Badges (formerly called Canvas Credentials, and before that Badgr).

We recommend exploring the data in both locations to have the convenience of checking on badge awards directly in the Canvas course, with the power of data analytics in Parchment Badges.

1. Inside your Canvas Course Site

Follow these steps to locate information directly in your course site.  Learn who has earned a badge in a given Canvas badge course.

If you see the word “Parchment Badges” in your left-course navigation:

  • Select “Parchment Badges” in the left-course navigation
  • Select “Learners” to view the list of students and badges earned

If you have already had digital badges in your course, and you do not find the words “Parchment Badges” in your left-course navigation, please submit a ticket to the badge team and ask to have the "Parchment Badges" turned on in the left side course navigation. Be sure to explain the Canvas course name and URL, and if you are the lead badge manager/guide for that course. We also encourage you to not in the ticket that you'd like a badge team member to review your course site to make sure you have the most current directions for your badge access directions since we now have Parchment instead of Canvas Credentials or Badgr. (They mostly should work seamlessly, however some of the wording needs to be replaced in the directions. For example, replace Canvas Credentials or Badgr with Parchment Badges.)

2. Within Parchment Badges (Formerly Canvas Credentials or Badgr Pro)

The following directions assist you to log into the Parchment Badges platform (if you are a Teacher or Badge Manager in a badge course). Learn who has accessed their badge, and access graphs that provide information on data trends around badge completion and badge sharing on social platforms.

  • Log into https://stthomas.badges.parchment.com/ using the credentials you used to create your account.
  • Select “Issuers” in the top menu bar.
  • Select “University of St. Thomas”
  • Select your badge name, or search for it under “Search Issuer Badges” to find it.
  • Select “Awards” to view a list of people who have earned your badge.
  • Select “Analytics” to view a date-timeline for how the badge is being awarded and shared.

If you are not sure whether you are a Badge Manager, you would already be in consultation with the St. Thomas badge team and part of our UST Badge Teams site, "Badge Managers and Guides."

Not able to find the Parchment Badges data for your course? Please select "Request for Service" on this article and request help to learn ways to find and leverage badge data in powerful ways.

A digital badge and microcredential are electronic, visual indicators that show knowledge, skills, and competencies that a student, staff or faculty have gained from the training or learning experiences. Badge and Microcredential Service team staff consult with interested stakeholders to assist in their development of badges that adhere to quality practices and interface with our external badging platforms to provide verifiable credentials. We also can help you find existing badging options at St. Thomas.
