YuJa Panorama’s Caption Detection feature ensures that all video content used in courses is accessible to students with hearing impairments or those who benefit from subtitles. This feature automatically scans embedded videos for existing captions and prompts faculty to add captions if they are missing. By using Panorama’s Caption Detection, faculty can proactively address accessibility issues in their course videos, whether they are original lectures, YouTube links, or third-party content.

Caption Detection provides an automated way to verify and add captions to course videos. Some key details include:

• Automated Caption Scanning: Scans videos for existing captions, including embedded YouTube or external videos.
• Prompts for Missing Captions: Alerts faculty when videos lack captions, providing options to add or update them.
• Seamless Canvas Integration: Works directly within Canvas, allowing faculty to verify and manage video captions without switching platforms.
• Flexible Caption Management: Offers captioning options for different video sources, from lecture recordings to linked YouTube content.

*Note* At this time, Panorama does not check for captions in Panopto videos.  Panopto is configured at St. Thomas to automatically create and apply machine-generated captions for every video uploaded to Panopto.
