Using Quick Edit in OneStThomas

Summary

Information and instructions for using Quick Edit for OneStThomas webpages at the University of St. Thomas.

Body

Quick Editing content is a new feature in OneStThomas that allows content contributors to bypass the full Content Management System (CMS) and create a featured news post or an event listing quickly and easily without needing access to edit anything else in the back-end of the system.  This is a great feature if you only create the occasional news post or delegate that responsibility to a student worker.

This requires additional configuration to enable on your site in OneStThomas.  Please submit a ticket to request this feature.

Accessing Quick Edit

To use this feature, you must first start on your own site.  Once on your own site, click the "My Content" button in the eyebrow navigation at the top of your screen:

Select "News" under the "Create New" section.  If you have access to more than one repository in your site, you'll be able to choose that as well:

Quick Edit Form

Creating news using the quick edit feature is as easy as filling out a form.  The entry fields correspond with the same fields available in the CMS when creating news or events normally.  Please note, advanced scheduling features are not available in Quick Edit mode.

  • Featured News: Check this box so it will automatically show up on everyone's OneStThomas homepage
  • Title: Title of the post (30 characters or less)
  • Page content: WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) content editor, allows for rich text editing including images, hyperlinks, and more
  • Short description: A brief summary listed as a subtitle on story rollups (30 characters including spaces)
  • Post image: Thumbnail image used on the homepage (crops to a 500px square)
  • Author: Defaults to the content editor unless otherwise specified
  • Article Date: Official story date & time

Topics

Topic tags are a helpful personalization option that allow users to find and search for similarly tagged content.  (E.g. stories tagged with "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" can be filtered and searched for in the Search Center of OneStThomas or used to aggregate similar content in rollups and widgets that allow personalization.)

Don't forget to hit "Save" when you're done to commit the article and publish it live!
