macOS: How to install Salesforce Data Loader

This service is for faculty and staff.

The steps below describe how to install Salesforce Data Loader on a St. Thomas macOS computer.

Install Azul Zulu JRE from Self Service

  1. Open the "Self Service" app on your St. Thomas Mac.

  2. Search for "Azul" in the search box, then click "Install" to install it on your Mac.

Download and install Salesforce Data Loader

  1. Download the latest version of Data Loader from Salesforce's website.
     
  2. Click the "dataloader_vXX.X.X.zip" file in your Downloads to extract the zip file.

  3. In the extracted "dataloader_vXX.X.X" folder, double-click "install.command"

  4. You may receive a prompt asking if you are sure you want to open the file. Click Open.

  5. A Terminal command line interface opens.

  6. At the first prompt ("Do you want to install Data Loader in the current folder?"), type "No" and press Return.
     
  7. At the next prompt ("Provide the installation folder [default: dataloader] :"), just press Return.

    This will install dataloader to the root of your user profile (/Users/username/dataloader).
     
  8. If you are asked if you want to "overwrite previously installed Data Loader vXX.X.X and its configuration in...", type "Yes" and press Return.
     
  9. At the prompt to create a Desktop shortcut, type "Yes" and press Return.
     
  10. At the prompt to create a shortcut in the Applications folder, type "No" and press Return.
     
  11. You should receive a message that "Data Loader installation is complete. Press <Enter> key to continue ..."
     
  12. Quit the Terminal app.
     
  13. Double-click the shortcut on your Desktop to launch Data Loader.

  14. The app launches.
