In May 2026, St. Thomas enabled an optional "New Dashboard" view in Canvas. Students can switch to this view by clicking the "Switch to new dashboard view" button on their Canvas dashboard. Details about using the New Dashboard along with video/screenshots are available in Instructure's article How do I customize my Dashboard as a student?
Note that if you are a St. Thomas student but have an "elevated" role anywhere in Canvas (e.g. you are a TA in a class, or are a leader in a non-course Canvas site for a club or special project) you will not see the "Switch to new dashboard view". The new view is only available to those who are "students, and nothing but students" as determined by their roles in Canvas.
Warning: If a graded item does not have a "Due Date" assigned to it, it does not appear in the "Due" count on the New Dashboard. Make sure that you are regularly reviewing and following your professors' syllabi and their instructions in class, rather than relying only on what your Canvas dashboard displays.
