The following steps will guide you through the process of upgrading to the latest supported version of macOS on your St. Thomas Mac using our Self Service app.
Back Up Your Data
Before you upgrade your Mac, please be sure to back up your data. You can use the OneDrive application installed on your St. Thomas Mac to sync your files to your St. Thomas OneDrive account. The OneDrive Folder Backup feature allows you to sync the Desktop and Documents folders to OneDrive. For more info on using the OneDrive application, please refer to our knowledge base article: OneDrive: Getting Started.
Begin the Upgrade
Note: You will need at least 45 GB of available storage on your Mac to perform the upgrade.
- Connect your Mac to power and have a reliable internet connection
- Using the menu bar on your Mac, choose Go > Applications and then double-click the Self Service app to open the app
- In the Self Service app, use the search box in the top left corner of the window and search for Upgrade My Mac or choose Upgrade My Mac from the Featured section of Self Service
- Save any files and close all applications except for the Self Service app
- When you are ready, click the Upgrade button on the Upgrade My Mac option within the Self Service app
- When the window pops up asking for your username enter your username you use to login to the mac.
- Enter the password into the next window asking for your password.
- macOS will begin downloading
- After macOS finishes downloading, upgrade process will begin
- Once it is done installing the computer will restart and finish the install at a black screen with the apple logo, once it is done it will automatically go to the regular login screen.
