The following are frequently asked questions related to getting Canvas setup. 

How do I login to Canvas?

You can access Canvas from the Apps and Tools menu within OneStThomas. Be sure to use your full username@stthomas.edu and associated password when logging in. 

Note: Not all web browsers are compatible with Canvas. Be sure you are using the latest version of a modern web browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.

How do I setup notification preferences and frequency?

You can update the frequency of your Canvas notifications to notify you right away, send a daily summary, send a weekly summary, or do not send anything related to a specific topic. 

  1. Go to Canvas
  2. Click on the "Account" tab
  3. Click on "Notifications"
  4. Choose your preferences. You can choose to receive notification alerts immediately, daily, weekly, or never.
    1. Note: the default for notifications is to your St. Thomas email address. However, Canvas also supports notification through additional e-mail addresses, SMS text message, and Twitter.

How to add your Canvas course calendar to another calendar

If you use a different app to manage all of your calendars in one place, you can add your course calendar there too. An example is Google Calendar, iCal, Outlook, etc. 

  1. Go to Canvas
  2. Click on the "Calendar" tab
  3. Click on the "Calendar feed" link

  4. Copy that link and add it to your personal calendar app (you may need to Google how to do this process if you are unsure).

Explore Tommie Tech

In addition to learning how to use Canvas, the Tommie Tech site will walk you through a high level overview of all the technology systems you'll encounter as a student. You'll also get training on how to use Canvas which is the tool where your professors will post their syllabus, assignments, course materials, and more. 

  1. Login to Canvas.
  2. Go to your Dashboard
  3. Click on the Tommie Tech site.
