How do I access and install Microsoft Office 365?

Microsoft Office 365 provides access to essential productivity applications through a web browser or desktop installation. St. Thomas members can use Office apps including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, SharePoint, and Teams on computers, phones, and tablets.

This service applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Faculty, staff, and students
  • Windows PC and Mac computers
  • iPhone, Android, and Windows mobile devices
  • Any web browser

Resolution

Before You Begin

Important: You must have an active St. Thomas account to access Office 365. This service is free and available to all current university members. Your subscription will end when you leave the university.

Microsoft Office 365 apps are available through a web browser without installation. Use this method to access Office from any device with internet access.

  1. Navigate to OneStThomas.
  2. Select My Office 365.
  3. Choose an application from the list or select All Office 365 Apps to access your office.com dashboard.

You now have access to all Office 365 applications online. No installation is required.

Download and install the full Microsoft 365 Apps suite on up to 5 computers, including Windows PCs and Macs.

  1. Navigate to office.com.
  2. In the left column, click the app launcher icon (waffle icon).
  3. Select More apps.
  4. Click the Install apps button.
  5. Select Microsoft 365 Apps.
  6. When the download completes, locate the file in your Downloads folder. On Mac, click Save File if prompted.
  7. Open the .exe file (Windows) or .dmg file (Mac) and follow the installation prompts.
  8. During installation, you have the option to take a tour. If you are unfamiliar with Microsoft Office, take advantage of this feature.
  9. Wait for the installer to complete. Installation may take a few minutes to finalize.

Note: Microsoft 365 Apps are pre-activated with your St. Thomas account. No product key or activation is required. Verify you are logged in with your username@stthomas.edu and associated password.

Microsoft Office mobile apps are available for iPhone, Android, and Windows devices.

  • iPhone: Visit the Apple App Store and search for Microsoft Office apps.
  • Android: Visit Google Play and search for Microsoft Office apps.
  • Windows Phone or Tablet: Visit the Microsoft Store and search for Office apps.

After installation, sign in with your username@stthomas.edu and associated password to access your Office 365 apps.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot access or install Office 365:

  • Confirm you are using your St. Thomas username@stthomas.edu account and correct password.
  • Verify your account is active at the university.
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again.
  • Try a different supported web browser.
  • On desktop installation, ensure your computer meets Microsoft 365 system requirements for your operating system.
