Common Jamf Connect Questions

Why do I need to enter my password twice when logging in?

For Jamf Connect to ensure your passwords are in sync, Jamf Connect will first verify your St. Thomas account password. The second password prompt checks to see if your local Mac account password and St. Thomas account password match.

Why do I need Jamf Connect?

Jamf Connect helps ensure the password on your St. Thomas Mac always matches your St. Thomas account password (the password used to access your email, OneDrive, etc.)

Let's say you forget your Mac login password. After you enter your current St. Thomas email address and password in the Jamf Connect login window prompts, Jamf Connect will update your old Mac password to match your current St. Thomas account password.

Why am I not seeing the new Jamf Connect login window when I power on or restart my Mac?

A few startup checks happen when you power on your Mac. One of those checks is to verify the FileVault encryption status of your Mac's hard drive.

If your Mac has FileVault turned on, you will not see the new Jamf Connect login window but instead, see the traditional macOS login window.

If your Mac has FileVault turned off, your Mac will present the Jamf Connect login window.

What is FileVault?

FileVault is an encryption process built into every St. Thomas Mac that helps prevent unauthorized access to the data stored on your Mac.

ITS turns on FileVault by default for primary & secondary use Macs.

Does Jamf Connect require an internet connection?

Yes! Jamf Connect requires an active internet connection to sync your local Mac and St. Thomas account passwords.

On-Campus: The Mac will need to be connected via a wired Ethernet connection.

Off-Campus: You can click the Wi-Fi symbol in the top right corner of the Jamf Connect Login Window, and connect to a Wi-Fi network.

How do I log in on a Mac that uses the Jamf Connect login window, but I don't have an internet connection?

If you need to log in to a Mac that uses the Jamf Connect login window and you do not have an active internet connection, you can click the Local Login button towards the bottom of the Jamf Connect login window.

Note: If you do not have an account already set up on the Mac, the Local Login button will not work, and you will need to contact the Tech Desk for assistance.
