Video: How to Assemble, Use, and Take Apart Ring Light
Before you begin, make sure that all of the equipment is included with your Go-kit. The kit should include a Ring light, Tri-pod, Power cord (2 pieces), Phone Grip, Swivel Mount, Gooseneck arm, Batteries (2), Battery Charging Docs (2).
Step 1: Setting up the Tripod (0:00 - 0:40)
To set up the Tripod, take it out of the bag and loosen the knob in the middle, pull the legs down and out until the tripod can stand on the 3 legs at about a 45 degree angle, then tighten the original knob in the middle.
Note: You can use the knobs at the top of the tripod to adjust the height you would like your light to be set at.
Step 2: Attaching the Ring Light (0:40 - 1:00)
Take the ring light out of your bag, and set it on top of the tripod. You may need to loosen the knob on the ring light before it fits on the tripod. Once it is on, tighten the knob until the ring light is stable on the stand.
Remove the remaining pieces: Power cord (2 pieces), Phone Grip, Swivel Mount, Gooseneck arm, Batteries (2), Battery Charging Docs (2).
Step 3: Powering the Ring Light (1:00 - 2:32)
You can use either the power cord or the batteries to power your ring light.
Power Cord (1:40 - 2:10)
To use the power cord, plug into an outlet and then attach to the power supply. Then plug the power supply directly into the back of the ring light. Finally, flip on the Power switch on the back of the ring light to Power Two (II).
Batteries (2:10 - 2:32)
To use the batteries for power, mount the batteries by carefully sliding them into the the back of the ring light, then flip the power switch on the back of the ring light to Power One (I). Note: both batteries need to be mounted in order for the power to work.
Step 4: Attaching the Phone Grip (2:32 - 4:00)
To attach the phone grip, you will first need to attach the swivel mount or the gooseneck arm. Both options are able to hold the phone grip but the swivel mount will be slightly more stable with a bit more flexibility in movement.
Swivel Mount (2:32 - 3:30)
To attach the swivel mount place on the thread at the inside base of the ring light and screw on. The knob on the side of the swivel mount can be loosened to allow the threaded base to move around to your needs.
The phone grip can be attached using 1 of 2 mount positions, on the back or on the side of the phone grip. You simply screw it on to the swivel mount thread, making sure its stable and secure. To add a device to the phone grip, pull the side of the phone grip so it extends and then add your device and let the grip slide back to secure your device.
Gooseneck Arm (3:30 - 4:00)
The gooseneck arm can be attached on top of the light, or just under the top portion of the light itself. It can also screw on to the base of the light where we have the swivel mount right now. To attach to the top two positions, just slide the square base of the gooseneck arm into the mount and tighten.
Once your ring light has been turned on you should see numbers and letters on the screen on the backside of the light. Directly to the left of that screen there are three light indicators labeled from top to bottom Brightness, Color Temperature, and Battery. Pushing down on the knob will filter through these 3 options, with an orange light indicating which feature is being displayed. To learn more about video production best practices watch the video below.
Angle Adjustment
You can use the knob at the very bottom of the right light to adjust the angle. Make sure you have a good grip on the ring light before loosening the knob, then adjust however you may need and re-tighten the knob.
Brightness
The top feature “Brightness”, show the letter “P” followed by a number from 0-100 with 100 being the brightest and zero being off. You can adjust the brightness by turning the knob.
Color Temperature
The second feature is “color temperature”, which shows a 4-digit number from 3200-5600. This number represents the degrees Kelvin that your light it set to. Temperatures over 5000 are considered COOL, while temperatures under 5000 are considered WARM. Simply spin the knob to adjust the color temperature to match your environment.
Battery
Finally, the last feature indicates your battery level. If you have your light running off the power cord and not batteries, then this feature will say FULL. If you are using the batteries, the screen will say FULL, or a number between E-00 and E-10, with E-10 being the most charged. Once the battery shows E-00, the light will turn off and need to be plugged in or the batteries recharged.
When finished with the light, remove all the attachments, the batteries and the power cord. Return all accessories to the internal zipper pocket in your Westcott travel bag. Next, take the ring light off the tripod and return it to the bag. Finally, fold up your tripod and return it to the bag.
To use the Jabra speaker/microphone, first, take it out of the protective case. Next, touch the power button on your Jabra and wait until you see the lights turn on.
