Scalelogic is high-speed networked media production storage space available to university departments and colleges that have need for low latency high speed media production storage. This can include any multimedia assets including, but not limited to, all formats of video and audio files as well as graphic assets.
The system is intended as an active storage space for media production projects that are actively being manipulated. Examples include video editing, audio editing, graphic editing, and projects that are actively being accessed by users to produce media content.
Scalelogic is not intended to replace cloud based storage solutions as a local storage solution (e.g. - PowerPoint, Excel, Word files are not stored on Scalelogic).
Scalelogic is not a long-term storage solution, it is not currently backed up.
The university's Media Production Infrastructure team manages Scalelogic requests. This includes new user account requests, new Scalelogic shares (aka "partition") requests for new use cases not currently supported, and user access requests to specific Scalelogic spaces (e.g. user account or user group to access a specific existing Scalelogic space).
New account access must be approved by user's supervisor; please allow 48 business hours for supervisor approval. If you are not a supervisor requesting access, your request will be sent to your supervisor for approval. If your supervisor requests your access, approval will be more timely.
ITS does not support or provide backup (a moment in time) or archive (long term storage) solutions for any media asset on Scalelogic. It is not a long-term media storage device; it is for active media productions and should be routinely cleared and maintained by users (departments, colleges, or staff teams). Users (departments, colleges, staff teams) are responsible for managing their media on Scalelogic and for having an appropriate long-term storage / archival policy and strategy based on their group’s needs. ITS will periodically clean-up Scalelogic drives and request clients to archive media that is no longer in active use.
ITS recommends departments or colleges create a long-term strategy for access to archived media assets. ITS does not provide archival space for these assets; this is subject to future change based on university budgets and priorities.
