If you have added a Canvas template to your course, this article will show you how to apply the template to new items. Your template likely contains templates for Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions. Templates are identified with "[Template]" in the title.
There are two main ways to apply templates throughout your course:
Duplicate:
All module items can be duplicated with the exception of Classic Quizzes (New Quizzes can be duplicated). Follow these instructions to make duplicates of the template items:
This will create a duplicate copy of the Template. Be sure to edit the new item you created:
- Edit the title.
- Edit the purple header (copy/paste the title).
If you have issues duplicating items, please contact Canvas 24/7 Help.
Copy/Paste:
An easy way to carry over the template into new items is to copy and paste from the original template. (The original template will have "[Template]" in the title.)
You can try copying the formatting, though this doesn't work for everyone on every browser. The most reliable way to copy/paste the template is to copy the HTML.
Copy the HTML
To access the HTML code on the template item:
- Edit the item.
- Click on the HTML editor (in the lower right of the content window) which looks like "</>".
- Copy the HTML.
Go to the item you want to apply the template to:
- Edit the item.
- Click on the HTML editor (in the lower right of the content window) which looks like "</>".
- Paste the HTML.
- Click the HTML editor again to return to the Rich Content Editor.
