Microsoft Office 365: How to Access or Install on Personal Devices

This service is for faculty, staff, and students.

Access Office 365 from any web browser or download the full Microsoft Office suite for personal use on up to 5 computers, including PC and Mac. St. Thomas members can also use Office mobile apps on iPhones, Android, and Windows phones or tablets. 

This service is free and available while active members at the university. Once you have left the University, your Microsoft Office subscription will end.

Microsoft Office apps include: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, SharePoint, Teams, and many more. 

How to Access Office 365 from the Web

Microsoft Office 365 apps are all conveniently available to use and access from any web browser. 

  1. Open OneStThomas
  2. Go to the Apps and Tools menu

  3. Click on the Office 365 Apps tab

  4. Choose the one that you're looking for from this list or click on "All Office 365 Apps" to go to your office.com dashboard. 

How to Install Microsoft Office on Your Personal Laptop

  1. Go to your Office 365 dashboard at office.com
  2. Click the Install Office button

  3. Select "Office 365 Apps"

  4. The file will download. (Note: on Mac you may need to click Save File at this step to begin the download)
  5. Open the .exe file (on a PC) or the .dmg file (on a Mac) and follow its prompts. 
  6. As the installer progresses you will have the option to take a tour of the suite. If you are unfamiliar with Microsoft Office you should take advantage of this feature.
  7. Once the installer is finished, it will take another minute or two to wrap up the install. You should be able to use the Office suite once it is complete.
    *The software should be pre-activated, so there is no need for a product key or activation of any kind. Verify you are logged in with your St. Thomas username@stthomas.edu and associated password.
