Printing Costs Frequently Asked Questions

This service is for faculty, staff, and students.

St. Thomas provides printing to the campus community and visitors.

How much does printing cost?

Students receive a complimentary print credit at the start of each term to cover approximately 400 pages of black and white printing on campus. Any printing that exceeds this amount will be charged to the student's bill through the Business Office.

Faculty, staff, and student workers who print through university-managed printers will be charged back to your department index code. You can select which code is used on the print confirmation pop-up window.

Students & Visitors Faculty, Staff, & Student Workers
Grayscale Prints (Black and white)  $0.05/page $0.01/page
Color Prints $0.50/page $0.10/page

How will I know how much I am being charged?

Before a document is printed, a PaperCut dialogue window pops up on the computer. This will show a preview of the document details and cost of the print job. A student must confirm printing at this step.

Student workers will be able to select their work department as the account be charged for work related printing in this dialogue window or when copying at the multi-functioning printer (MFP) touch screen menu.

How do I track and manage my print balance?

Your printing balance can be tracked and monitored in PaperCut at print.stthomas.edu

Students can also see their current remaining balance in the My Actions tab of your OneStThomas homepage.

How can I add more funds to my print account?

You may want to add more funds to your print account if you are a:

  • Visitor on campus
  • Student who has exceeded their complimentary credit and does not want to be charged through their student bill
  • Faculty/staff who wishes to print items on campus for personal use

Whichever case you may be, you can purchase a Guest Printing card from the Library front desks which can then be redeemed in PaperCut. These print cards are pre-sold in $1 and $5 increments.

  1. Purchase a pre-paid print card from the Library front desks
  2. Login to print.stthomas.edu with your St. Thomas account (or create a new one if you're a visitor)
  3. Go to the Redeem Card tab from the left menu
  4. Enter in your pre-paid print card number in the field.
  5. Once you click Redeem Card button, your account balance will increase by the card value and you will then be able to print to campus computers.

Can I get a refund for a printer issue?

ITS will issue a refund of print credit back to user accounts only when a printer had a machine malfunction, such as printer jams, smudges, etc. Submit a refund request directly on the print job in PaperCut and allow 7 business days for review and action. Approval or denial will be communicated to your email account.

Print Credits will not be given for user error during printing including, but not limited to:

  • Printing the wrong document
  • Printing too many copies
  • Expected it to print duplex and it did not
  • Expected it to print in color/grayscale but prints the opposite

Do I get a refund of unused printing balances?

There is no cash value to the allotment; therefore no cash payment will be made for any unused balances.

Unused balances will not carry over each semester (Fall, J-term/Spring, and Summer) and are reset at the beginning of each semester.

Any printing done beyond this allotment will be charged a per-page fee at the current printing rates to their student account billed through the Business Office after the end of the semester. Please manage your printing balance by logging into PaperCut at print.stthomas.edu
