Faculty have separate profiles in Research Online and our External websites (Cascade). In the Fall of 2024, Libraries and MIC started a project to integrate key information between the two systems to reduce redundancy and improve the profile update process. Starting in January 2025, information will feed between the two systems. This service will facilitate adding new faculty, removing faculty, requesting updates, proxy access and bug fixes.
Important Notes
- If you want to change office location, phone number or mailstop please visit Murphy Online to update contact information.
- This will feed into OneStThomas, Outlook, Cascade and Research Online.
- If you want to have something other than your default information shown in Cascade or Research Online, fill out the update form (to the right). For instance, showing your vanity email instead of your netid.
- Please don’t update your faculty headshot/photo in Research Online, instead either submit a ticket or speak to your Cascade editor. The update in Cascade will show up in both systems.
- CVs should be updated in Cascade.
- If you have publications that are not showing correctly, submit a ticket with the publication(s) and we’ll update.
- If you are not logged into Research Online, you may not see your profile. Some profiles in Research Online are currently marked “private”.
- If you update a private profile, it will still feed information to your Cascade (external) profile.
- You may have a public profile in Cascade but not Research Online. This includes staff and some adjunct faculty.
- If you believe your profile should be live, submit a ticket under “General Updates”.
- When you make an update in Research Online, it can take up to 24 hours for that update to feed to the Cascade/External Website bio.
Research Online
- Example: https://researchonline.stthomas.edu/esploro/search/researchers?query=*&page=1&institution=01CLIC_STTHOMAS
- Why important
- Research Online is the university’s digital repository used to highlight the scholarly work created or sponsored by faculty, students or staff. The information in the Faculty Profiles helps populate our External Websites and allows for the repository to add new scholarly works automatically.
- What is proxy access?
- Proxy access gives someone else permission to edit your Research Online profile. This is commonly given to coordinators or updaters within your department.
- CV and Image come from Cascade.

Cascade Editors:
- If you have a new version of a CV or Faculty image, navigate to the existing image/CV file in Cascade and “Edit” it to overwrite it with the new version. This allows the URL of the image/CV to remain the same, which is necessary for Research Online to sync with these files. Failure to do this can result in broken images and links in Research Online. If you see this, submit a “Report a bug/issue” ticket (button to the right).
- To replace files with newer versions (versioning) in Cascade:
- Select image or CV in Media Library
- Click Edit
- Select the new image or CV version from your computer (file name does not need to be the same)
- Hit Preview
- Click Submit
- Review Spellchecker
- Click Start Workflow
- This will update the file in Research Online and Cascade without having to upload a whole new version.
