This service is for faculty, staff, and student workers.
Jabber for Desktop is a software application that lets you use a Windows or Mac computer to place and answer calls from your University of St. Thomas work number. Jabber can also be installed on Android or Apple mobile devices.
The Jabber application includes the following features:
- Receive Calls
- Make Calls
- Transfer Calls
- Check Voicemail
- Search the University of St.Thomas Directory
How to Request Jabber
Contact the ITS Tech Desk to request access and provide the following information:
- State that you would like to request Jabber for Desktop, Jabber for Cell Phone, or Both.
- Provide your St. Thomas Email Address
- Provide your St. Thomas Phone Number
- Provide your St. Thomas Asset ID (If requesting for Desktop)
- Provide your Cell Phone Operating System type; either Apple (iOS), or Android
How to Install Jabber
Once your request has been processed, use one of the following methods to download and install the software.
Windows
- Go to the Start menu and search for Software Center.
- From here you will be able to find Cisco Jabber to install on your St. Thomas computer.
- Click on the software title. You will see an install button for any software that is available for your computer. If you see an uninstall button it is because the software is already available on your computer and can be removed by you at any time.
Mac
- You can access Self Service by navigating to the Applications folder on your Mac. (The Applications folder is available by going to the menu bar at the top of your desktop, choose Go and then select Applications.)
- Double-click the Self Service icon to open the application.

After you find and select the Cisco Jabber client install, click on the Install button for that software title. Self Service will begin installing the software title on your computer. If you notice a Reinstall button, it is because the software is already available on your computer.
Cell Phone
- From an iPhone, search the App Store for the Cisco Jabber app.
- From an Android phone, search the Google Play Store the Cisco Jabber app
Setup and Configuration
- Launch the installed app.
- Select Accept if you are presented with a similar window:
- You will be asked to enter your St. Thomas email address. If you have problems submitting your address, make sure that you are using your original email address, and not an alias address (eg. smit1234@stthomas.edu)
