Information on the new Zoom Pro (LTI 1.3) in Course sites

On May 25, 2024, ITS switched to a new version of Zoom integration available in Canvas.  This new version enables some additional functionality related to, among other things, grading and more options for restricted access to recordings to Canvas site members.

During the upgrade process, the "Zoom Pro" menu item might have moved or reappeared in course navigation. You can move or remove it by editing your Course Navigation from a course's "Settings" menu; follow Instructure's guide to Manage Course Navigation Links

What's new in Zoom Pro now?

Assignment and Grade Service:

  • Zoom meeting attendance can update the Canvas gradebook.
  • Zoom poll results can update the Canvas gradebook.

Names and Role Provisioning Services

  • Restrict access to Zoom meetings associated with a course to only users that are in the course roster.
  • Restrict access to Zoom cloud recordings for course meetings to only users that are in the class roster.
  • Add users in the class roster to pre-assigned breakout rooms.

Advanced discussion for Spring 2024 faculty testers:

If you tried those new features out in your Spring or Summer course during our test phase, you probably have two "Zoom Pro" links in your course now -- the one you installed, and the university-wide installation. Please follow the directions below to remove any redundant version of Zoom Pro from your course.

How to remove a previous Zoom Pro LTI 1.3 from your Course site:

  1. Go into a course
  2. Go to Settings > Apps
  3. Click “View App Configurations”
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the list to find the "Zoom" references
  5. If one Zoom Pro has a gear icon instead of an informational "(i)" icon, click the gear:

In the menu that appears, choose "Delete"

You will be presented with a confirmation screen; if you click "Delete" your course-specific Zoom Pro will be removed and you'll be left with the university-wide version:
