This service is for faculty, staff, and student workers.
St. Thomas offers two styles of printing from your work computer:
- You can choose to print immediately as traditional printing.
- You can use the Follow-Me printing feature, which allows you to have your document sent to a virtual queue that you can swipe in and pick-up later at a multi-functioning printer (MFP, i.e. copier/scanner) when convenient. This is also a great option for keeping your files confidential. Learn more about FollowMe printing.
We recommend setting up both methods onto your work computer which follow the same setup process.
How to Setup or Remove a St. Thomas Printer on a PC
- Verify you're connected to a Wi-Fi or wired ethernet network
- Verify PaperCut is running on your computer (this comes pre-installed on St. Thomas computers)
- In the Windows search bar, search for Find Printers and click to open up a search utility.
- Search for a printer using the Name field. You can search by using the building code and room (such as "OEC008").
- In the search results area, double-click the name of the printer to add it to your computer.
- You will see a progress bar and it may take a few minutes to complete.
- If you go back to the Devices and Printers window from under the Start Menu, you will see the new printer shown.
Remove a university printer from your PC
- Click on the Start button
- Click on "Devices and Printers"
- Select the icon of the printer you wish to delete
- Under File, choose "Remove Device"
To Change your Default Printer
- Click on the Start button
- Click on "Devices and Printers"
- Select the icon of the printer you wish to make the default
- Under File, choose "Set as default printer."
Note: If you are re-adding a printer currently installed on your Mac, please delete the old printer before re-adding it.
- Connect to any of the campus Wi-Fi networks.
- Verify the pre-installed PaperCut app is running by looking for the PaperCut icon in your Mac's menu bar.
- Using the menu bar on your Mac, click the Apple logo ??? in the top left corner of your screen, choose System Preferences and then choose Printers & Scanners.
- Click the add + button.
- Using the search box in the Add Printer window, type in the building code (i.e., OEC) or the four-digit queue number included on the orange tag attached to the HP printer or Sharp MFD and select the printer you would like to add.
- Click the Add button.
- The first time you print, you will receive an authentication prompt. Please enter your St. Thomas username (without @stthomas.edu) and password, and check the box to Remember this password in my keychain to prevent future authentication prompts.
- Click the OK button.
- If your print job does not go through and you receive a Hold for Authentication prompt, this is due to one of the following:
- Your St. Thomas account password was entered incorrectly when setting up the printer for the first time.
- Your St. Thomas password has changed since setting up the printer.
- The check box to Remember this password in my keychain was not selected when setting up the printer.
- To resolve the Hold for Authentication prompt, click the refresh button.
- Re-enter your St. Thomas account password, and check the box to Remember this password in my keychain.
- Using the menu bar on your Mac, click the Apple logo ??? in the top left corner of your screen, choose System Preferences and then choose Printers & Scanners
- Select the printer you would like to delete and click the delete - button
- When prompted, click the Delete Printer button
