This service is for faculty, staff.
The St. Thomas Canvas environment is tailored to provide efficient access to members of the St. Thomas community (e.g. those with an @stthomas.edu email address) using the same authentication mechanism as many of our other central systems, such as Murphy/Banner, OneStThomas, Office365, and more. This experience is essential to the safety and security of the student experience facilitated by Canvas.
At times, there may be a need for someone from outside the St. Thomas community to access specific Canvas course sites. The level to which this individual(s) will interact with students or student information in Canvas should be carefully considered before granting this access. Therefore, the most efficient and effective method to provide this type of access is to leverage the Courtesy Account Request process:
How to setup access for a non-St. Thomas community member
- Request a visiting faculty or visiting scholar type account using the form Request a St. Thomas Courtesy Account
- This will go through our normal process and is generally turned around quickly.
- Note: If you do not request the visiting faculty or visiting scholar type of account, the account will NOT have access to Canvas.
- Once the account is created, it can then be enrolled in the course in question by the requester:
- Log into Canvas
- Open the course in question
- Go to Settings
- Choose People
- Send an invitation to the email address that was created by the courtesy account process.
If the courtesy account will not meet your needs please email us at techdesk@stthomas.edu with your account request. A technician will look into your request and see if a solution is available.
